Investigation of controlled switching on of low voltage circuit breaker

In power system switching transients occur during normal switching. Not only

they depend on the system parameters, but also time affects the evolving inrush

transients. For this reason switching operations performed with appropriate timing can

minimize the harmful effects, thus the lifetime of equipment can be prolonged.

Point on wave closing method is mainly used in highvoltage systems. It is not

applied for lower voltage levels because of its complexity and high cost.

In my thesis I examine the feasibility of point on wave closing on low voltage

with injected pulse between the contacts. I create a control which is able to carry out

the process, furthermore, I examine how can the generated transient current in case of a

three-phase capacitor bank be minimized.
