Development of a Communication unit for FSE racing car

Nowadays in the area of technical sports, the technical solutions come more and more to the front, which affect the outcome of the races more and more significantly, therefore we need to implement the developments as quickly as possible. The CAN-Logger, presented in this thesis is such a device, which can facilitate the developments and tests. In the market we can find many of devices like this, but they can be very expensive. The primary function of the logger is to monitor the CAN bus and store all the data. The storage unit should have relatively big speed, capacity and mobility. In addition it needs to communicate with a computer. Our goal is to make a device like this.

In the first part of the thesis we select the appropriate parts according to the requirements, and we get acquainted with the microcontroller which we would like to use.

In the second part we will have a look at the specification, the protocol and the initialization of the data storage unit.

In the third part we find the structure of the storage unit's file system and we acquaint how to create it relatively fast.

In the last part I show an example how to create the development environment and we will have a look at the implementation.
