Grid integration study for a biogas power plant connected to 20 kV system

Environmental protection is one of the most significant problems of our days. Therefore small 0,5-50 MW power plants using renewable energy sources are getting more and more frequent. The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate the grid connection of these small power plants.

First of all, I am going to present the preparing of the connection and the technical conditions required to the grid connection. I will sum up the function of the power grid simulator programs used for power flow analysis, and demonstrate the PowerWorld, which is one of the most popular software on the market.

I am going to perform the voltage profile and fault analysis calculations for a 3MVA biogas power plant using both manual methods and PowerWorld simulations. The difference between the resuts of the computer simulations on the PowerWorld model and the manual methods are less than 1%.

In the last chapter I am going to determine the most important parameters of some elements of the connection using the results of the simulations.
