During the last years, mobile devices went through a remarkable development, which resulted in economic and social changes. Smartphones have become a part of our daily lives. Owing to the magnitude of these devices, such applications became popular, which provide services on a simple, user-friendly interface, often with using the data provided by the built-in sensors of the devices.
The goal of this thesis is to demonstrate the development of a service, which can connect those who intend to travel with the motorists who would accept these rides. The passengers and the drivers can use this service via two separate mobile applications. The applications are based on the positioning solutions provided by the devices, they provide a part of their functionality based on the user’s location.
I have created the client applications for the iOS platform considering the particularities of this operating system. I have designed the user interface and the architecture of the application considering Apple’s guidelines. The communication between the clients and the service itself is provided by a server-side application. The server is based on the new open-source version of the ASP.NET web framework, the ASP.NET Core. During the development I have paid special attention to the expandability of the application. In this dissertation, I disclose the chosen technologies, the architecture of the application and the process of the development on the server-side and on the client-side.
