A national campaign called “Defend your ear” was started in 2014 by the Permanent Inter-class Committee of Acoustics at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Its goal is to defend the hearing of the youth. The ratio of those youth people who are exposed to strong noise is 20% according to the estimation of the committee. This result is three times more than 30 years ago. Also owing to the committee instrumental measurements can be start in the future at public rooms with sound system. If they can get enough measurement results to prove the previous estimations then the committee wants to have a regulate for the volume of rooms equipped with sound system.
One realization of an instrumental measurement if the sound pressure level of the chosen place depending on time is recorded by the microphone of a smartphone.
In my thesis paper I would like to create a software which can measure the sound pressure level of the audio signals around its place and also records all the one-second-long measurement results. It could handle right different kind of microphones with different settings. These settings could be changed by the user by changing the calibration values. It can send the recorded information so that they can be processed centrally and to prepare statistics. This software is written onto Android operation system so measurements could be done on Android devices.
