The subject of my work was to construct such an archiving system, and develop such a software which is based on the LTFS file system, that has come up with the LTO 5. For achieving this goal in the first chapter I reviewed the concept of the data backup, and archiving and the mainly used storage categories. The second chapter is about the LTO tape. I discuss how it works, what are the capacities, and I show the generations also. At the end of this chapter I write about the tape libraries and the autoloaders. With introduction of the LTO 5 the LTFS was presented also. The LTFS gave a new impulse to the usage of the tape archiving. I show its main functions and advantages in the third chapter. At this point I deal with the opportunities of its usage in an archiving system. The LTFS unfortunately has some disadvantages, and known issues, which is presented also in this chapter. The fourth chapter is a smaller excursion to the broadcast archiving, and broadcast archive. On this spot I introduce the content base storage, which is illustrated with examples. The next chapter is about the construction of the archiving system and the software. I summarize the workflow of the media production and give a recommendation to the size of the storage. I present in this chapter the development of the software, and also give user documentation. At the end I summarize the whole work, and show how it would be advisable to develop the software on short and long term also.
I choose this theme because the coming out of the LTFS gave a new movement to the tape archiving. Although the LTFS has some errors, and limitations, despite of that it seems to have great future. The developers give new solutions for these issues in the upcoming versions. In line with this I have to upgrade, and develop my application also.
