Analysis of 2nd Generation Quantum Key Distribution System

Two semesters of studies culminate in the writing of this thesis. I had learned a great deal during this journey, primarily because the subject I had chosen had not been a part of the curriculum. Therefore, I had to do a lot of research before I was able to formulate my own thoughts on the matter.

This work discusses the themes specified as my thesis goals by the following order:

In the first part of my thesis, I give a brief summary of the most crucial theoretical background – quantum cryptography and the basics of quantum key distribution.

Secondly, I elucidate the quantum key distributor system of BME, currently being under development. During this I mainly concentrate on its theoretical model, for my task was to expand it to better suit free space communication.

After this, I present my proposed quantum channel, its realization and its simulation. I present the results of the simulation, and analyze the data.

Finally, I evaluate the methods used, and give an outlook of possible future developments.
