Research of renewable energy resources' effects to the grid with OPF calculation

The purpose of my thesis is to present the effect of the weather dependent energy production of renewable energy sources (wind and photovoltaic) by using optimal power flow (OPF) simulations.

I expand my theme from basic information, therefore in the first part of my work I will give a short outlook about the power system and the actuality of renewable energy sources. I shall highlight the importance, complexity, the different types of OPF and the several methods of calculation applied by it.

Following the analysis of the DIgSILENT Power Factory as a software, which could run optimal power flow calculations I shall present different static test options of the program on a 3 bus network. By using the acquired knowledge, I came up with a dynamic method to visualize the effects of RES’s production.

The test method was used on a model representing the energy mix of EU-28 and on the distribution network of Mosonmagyaróvár. Finally, I shall summarize the results of the calculations and the technical challenges as well as the awaiting possibities.
