In this paper I would like to present the basic concepts of data warehouse technology: what are the differences between regular smaller databases and data warehouses, how do you build a data warehouse system, what are the major parts of the DWH.

My next topic is about metadata describing the operation of the data warehouse: what types of metadata do we need to understand the processes in the system.

In the fourth chapter I present an example about how Teradata DWH platform works, how older ETL processes are implemented.

In the fifth chapter I introduce my application, which gathers the missing technical metadata from the source codes of the data loading processes, which can be used to document the current state of the system.

In the sixth chapter I show examples, how can the previously collected metadata be presented in an easily understandable graphical way in order to show the internal dependencies of the data loading processes, helping the maintenance and the further development of them.
