Control of a microfluidic test environment via virtual instrumentation

Microfludics is a multi-domain discipline, which is dealing with the control and manipulation of fluids in micro and nano scale. This research area is based on electrical engineering, mechanical and biomedical engineering. This work adresses the development process of a microfluidic test environment built at the Department of Electron Devices. A graphical measurement setup interface was developed and presented. This GUI is able to set a complete measurement process. A scheduler layer was also developed. The synchronised operation of the measurement system is provided by this layer, which also links between the hardware-control and graphical interface layers.

For the development of the GUI and the scheduler layer the LabVIEW software was used, which is suitable for designing virtual instumentation systems. During the designing I took into consideration the arising needs, such as simple, and complicated controller functions for actuator controling, iterative measurements, measurement tracking. Based on the tests, the implemented software is suitable for adjusting long term measurements. The GUI is simple, and it is easy to use.
