Microcontroller alarm system design

The main purpose of this project, building an alarm system based on ATMEL microcontroller, is considerably successfully fulfilled. The most important characteristics of the alarm system, which was built and tested in this project, are the following:

• Automatic operation.

• The system consists of:

o One control unit, which has an onboard LCD and setting buttons.

o One sensing unit, which can detect the motion of the door/window.

• These units communicate with each other through wireless radio signal.

• The control unit can connect with the PC using USB cable.

• The operation of the system can be controlled using either the setting buttons or the host program on the PC.

In general, the system which was built in this program works smoothly during the testing phase of the project under indoor conditions with the distance of the units can be up to 15 meters. The system is easily operable and monitored with the relatively high reliability, which can be suitable for a typical domestic alarm system.
