The essence of my project was to explore the possibilities of indoor positioning by utilizing available techniques. I created a concept that may help choose the ideal solution for given price/accuracy ratio.
The indoor positioning techniques are built on smartphones radio modules (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC) and the potential opportunities of additional devices. The solution can be optimized according to several metrics – including accuracy, speed, coverage, cost, and complexity.
I examined a variety of options in my project, namely those that NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and UWB standards could offer. I reviewed which are the applications that can be realized with the current technologies, and where they can be utilized. Although I tried to establish a working system with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but to solve this task, the UWB-Bluetooth based systems looks more suitable. To prove this, I examined a functioning UWB-Bluetooth based system in detail. In my thesis I detail the potential of the technology opportunities, obstacles and negative factors.
