Lightning protection design of cultural building

This thesis is about the lightning protection design of Vujicsics Tihamér Music School after the resurrection of the roof. The building is more than 100 years old, and the cover of the roof is made of metal.

The building is important in the life of the town, and from historical and town’s story aspects it is under local protection.

In the beginning of the thesis I specify the circumstances of lightning evolution, lightning species and attributes. After that, I write about lightning observer systems and the importance and availability of the data of these systems.

The second part is a review about the parts of the MSZ EN 62305 standard (which is operative at present).

After the theoretical basics comes the demonstration of the building, the measuring, the review of its attributes, and making the risk analysis based on the data taking into account the R1, R2, R4 risk factors.

In the end comes the lightning protection design of the building both inside and outside, which I confirm with a top view plan, measures and counting. The designed setting is 1 possible solution of many others.
