Construction of a PCB radiation scanner

Nowadays complying EMC standards has an important role. Electromagnetic compatibility problems typically arise during development of electronic devices; solution of these problems starts with identifying the source, continues with redesign and ends with testing of the whole device again. That is a long process which comes with high costs in case of any error. But if pretests can be done during development process which can pinpoint electromagnetic interferences, then development time and risk of problems can be highly decreased.

Scope of this thesis is to present the designing and building of a PCB radiation scanner which provides an adequate origin to find electromagnetic interference sources. The designed system does not substitute official laboratory measurements, but it can help to find the negative emitting sources. A hardware setup is introduced, which is capable of measuring PCBs electromagnetic noises in the near-field; and a JAVA based desktop application that is capable of controlling the introduced system and helps to find the sources of harmful electromagnetic noises.
