The requirements for the supply of electricity are becoming more and more strict, thus the high-quality maintenance of the power grid is essential. Due to the increasing needs and the competition between the power supply companies, live-line working is getting more and more important. Various diagnostic methods assist the maintenance, such as the inspecting robots near the live overhead transmission lines.
In order to prevent accidents and malfunctions, several calculations and experiments shall be made before using such equipment near live transmission lines, since the effects of electric and magnetic fields on the operation of electrical equipment around high voltage overhead transmission lines could result in severe human and financial losses.
In the work of my masters degree I simulated, calculated and measured the fields surrounding the transmission lines and also searched for solutions to eliminate the negative effects of these fields with shielding.
The fields surrounding the high voltage overhead transmission lines affect the electrical equipment simultaneously, but to make the calculations and studies easier; I am interpreting them in different chapters: the electric, the magnetic fields and the transient phenomena.
The results of this thesis can be a useful guidance for designing equipment which operates near the overhead transmission lines.
