My thesis was written at the Hungarian development center of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). As the production of photovoltatic inverters is relatively new technology in the portfolio of HHI, systematic data acquisition, which could continously store and monitor the performance and the operating parameters of different solar plants, has not yet been developed.
My task was to implement a data acquisition software, which is capable of monitoring and logging the operating status and errors of the inverters. I found the Communication Node application developed by HHI suitable for my task. After studying the operational structure and operating conditions of the inverters, I chose the parameters, which will help in the detection of errors and will provide sufficient information about the operation and efficency of the inverter.
The implemented software is connected to the inverters through RS485 serial port, it continuously logs the appropriate parameters and periodically performs pre-defined tests. The data stored on USB stick or micro-SD card are also available via FTP server.
The Communication Node with the software will collect data at one of the HHI solar plants in South Korea. In the future, the data acquisition software - if it delivers on its promise - will be of great importance for the annual maintenance and quality control studies.
