My master thesis is about my start-up project in which me and some of my engineering colleagues developed a smart bicycle lock that identifies and authenticates its owner by the owner’s phone and opens itself up whenever the owner approaches the bicycle, without the use of a physical key.
In my thesis I describe the status of the European bicycle market, the competing products that are already or soon to be on the market and I also elaborate the product that we have built.
My thesis presents the interdisciplinary fields of the project, such as the mechanical engineering concerns, the iOS application and it details the management tools that have been used during the development.
I present the selection of the Bluetooth Low Energy module and introduce the other peripheries of the bicycle lock as well. Since it is a battery driven system, I thoroughly elaborate the battery related questions of the product.
At the end of my thesis I present a cost estimation of the production at the quantity of 1000 units.
