Nowadays telecommunication is one of the main motive powers behind information technology, as there is a constantly growing desire to share more and more information with increasing speed. Currently fiber optics provides the most bandwidth, and it seems the future of telecommunication is dependent on the advances in this technology. Today’s technology can provide reserve speed for the access networks reaching end users, but the backbone have needs can’t be met by it. Therefore we need solutions able to provide broader bandwidth on the existing network infrastructure. As these high-bandwidth transfer methods need advanced modulation techniques and complex planning, their practical introduction is a non-trivial problem.

The goal of this thesis is to review the most advanced transmission methods and to pinpoint and solve the issues regarding their introduction in practice. It also analyzes the communication network of a company regarding the extension of its bandwidth, and provides plans to implement a solution.
