Visualization of Medical DICOM Images

In today’s world medicine is unimaginable without radiological technologies. Diagnostic medical imaging makes it possible for doctors to have an understanding of the human body without invasive procedures.

In the beginning radiology was a film based method, which means that the image had to be transferred into a sheet of film in dark rooms, then doctors analyzed these analogue pictures. As time went by the desire for a simpler method grew. The solution came in the form of digital visualization, so the definition film-free radiology was born.

In my thesis my intention is to expound today’s most significant medical imagining methods and their operation. Furthermore I will describe a visualization application which I developed, that is able to digitally show DICOM images.

In the interpretation of the application, I explain the used technologies, design patterns and software development processes. Furthermore I provide an insight into the available functions. Besides that I describe the proper usage of the program.
