The subject of this thesis is a multi-function harware card on PCIe/104 form factor. The card contains analog to digital and digital to analog converters and a Spartan 6 FPGA. Depending on the FPGA code, it can be a data acquisition card, or it can be a part of a software radio system. The 70 MHz intermediate frquency signals are connected to the card through SMA connectors. The conversion between the analog and digital signals is done by 16 bit converters. The FPGA processes the signal after the sampling and estabilishes connection towards a host PC through the PCI-Express bus. Using the card as a software radio system, it operates with a previously designed front-end card. The needed power supply and control signals of the front end are provided through a pin line of 26 poles.
The first section of this thesis is about the possible two different applications of the card including the major technologies (form factor, PCI-Express bus, driving the signals, etc.). The second part is about the actual design of the card from the preparation of the schematic to the PCB board design.
