PCIe/104 industrial form factor softver radio hardware platform design

The subject of the thesis is the design of a signal processor card which is part of a PCIe/104 system compatible Software Defined Radio. The aim is to process the signals of 70 MHz frequency of an already existing front-end module. The signals are connected to the card through AMC connectors. Conversion between analog and digital representation of the incoming and outgoing signals is done by high resolution analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. The digitized data of the sampled analogous signal is processed by an FPGA, which also enables the connection towards a host PC, through the PCIe bus. The front-end power supply and the control signals of the radio are connected to the card through a pin line of 26 poles. The default configuration of the FPGA is read out from a flash memory.

First part of the thesis deals with the basics of software defined radios, and with the systems used in the designing process. The actual designing process is described in the second part, from the preparation of the schematic till the preparation of the printed circuit board design.
