Development of a peripheral network module for a board unit

The topic of my thesis was the design and the development of an automotive embedded system. The designed RS485 switch enables the communication and the operation of other devices. During this process, I performed hardware and software designing tasks, as described in the paper.

Besides the expertise I gained in this field, I also tried to demonstrate the comprehensive knowledge of this topic. Where possible, I discussed the different kinds of design opportunities and their possible consequences.

In my thesis, after describing the specifications, I explained the steps of the hardware designing. I characterized the circuit design in detail and I provided a comprehensive description of the circuit protection. Following the development of the printed circuit board, I wrote about the hardware tests. After discussing the hardware, I addressed the process of software designing. This paper also describes the foundations of the software – the structure of the bootloader, the format of the ROBIN protocol, functions of the ChibiOS operating system – and the software test.
