Development of a Power-over-Ethernet RFID reader

This thesis describes the development of an RFID reader which provides RFID based authentication possibility for web applications. The device is able to read the internal code of standard EM410x RFID tags, then send the code to a predefined server through HTTPS. The settings are shown on an AJAX web interface, similar to the ones that are used in routers. The device is powered through the Ethernet cable, according to the IEEE 802.3af standard.

In the introductory part an application possibility is discussed, along with the main idea and the detailed design constraints. The first part shows the related standards and technologies. To be able to understand the design, it is necessary to study the theory of RFID coil design, so this is what the second part is about. The third and the fourth parts contain the steps of the development of the software and the hardware, along with the implementation of the desired standards, and the resolution of the engineering problems that arise in the meantime. Finally, the last part describes the testing procedure, summarizes the gained experience and shows possibilities for further development.
