Controller software development for a conveyor system used in pressing factory

One of the leading car manufacturer’s plant in Hungary is under expansion in order to keep up with growing needs. An existing factory building is replicated so production can speed up. The new manufacturing environment must be operated according to the updated standards of the company.

Hydraulic presses are commonly used during the car manufactoring process and they also generate an unavoidable by-product: scrap metal. The scrap metal has to be dispatched from the presses, sorted by material, and put into containers to be shipped away from the production site. My task in this project was to design the conveyor system to transport the selected material and write the controlling program.

In my thesis I introduce some autimation tools and techniques that are used in the automotive industry, the PLC family and its developer environment, and the standards of the company that are required for this task. After that I showcase the designed parts of the assignment, the steps of solving it, the logic instrucions that are controlling the system and the HMI application. At the end I summarize the project and my experiences.
