Creating a recipe search application for Windows platform

Nowadays mobile devices are playing an increasing role – smart phones and tablets. In modern Western societies a day does not go by without using these devices. With the expansion of portable devices the requirement for high quality application is also increasing. These apps should be quick and comfortable, its usage should provide real experience. We cannot forget about personal computers and notebooks either, because they can be found in the most households. Software used there have to meet the requirements mentioned above.

The new Universal Windows Platform gives the opportunity to unified app development. It means that the same application can be run on every Windows devices, on smartphones, tablets, notebooks, personal computers even on a Raspberry Pi. This is a huge advantage on the market as the time of developing is getting shorter – the application should be written only once. In the first half of my thesis I present the specifics and innovations of the platform, then the useable technologies during development.

Taking into consideration the statements above I create a recipe search application that is runnable on all kinds of Windows devices.

Meals are integral parts of our daily routine, however due to the consumer lifestyle we can spend less time and attention on healthy eating. The upcoming app can help to overcome on this problem – we can easily find recipes with attributes, e. g. preparation time ingredients and nutrients. It can be used for special diets also. Using the app we can forget the original cookbooks and save time. While cooking we do not have to touch the device, it can be controlled by voice commands. After the meal is ready, the user can share his/her experience with friends easily. In the other part of my thesis I introduce the solutions those are already available, describe the development of my application in details then examine the opportunities of further development.
