Development of an SFC simulator

The process control and automation are cornerstones of the industry. The devices and their control systems are developed continuously. In order to be competitive it is essential to obtain and practice the appropriate knowledge. The PLC programming can be challenging for many to learn, as it is to understand a lot and fundamentally different programming languages. From the languages used in the operation of the programmable logic controllers, the learning of the Sequential Function Chart (SFC) can be difficult, since it demands high level abstraction thinking from the developer.

The thesis represents development of an SFC simulator which capable to create sequential flowcharts and scope their simulation. The application meets the IEC 61131-3 standard and supports the creation of divergent routes and parallel sequences and also all the standard actions defined in the standard. In order to be cross-platform, the simulator has been implemented as a web application.
