Nowadays, the aging of the population is one of the most significant social changes. This process leads to an increase in the number of people who needs care, while that layer of the society, which could take care of these people is getting smaller. These changes impose physical and financial burden for the younger generations, so there is a growing need for such systems/solutions, which make the supervision of people in need easy, reliable and cost-effective. Another expectation against these kind of systems could be the long-distance operation, because today the family members usually live far away from each other.
During writing of my thesis I've had a chance to latch on to the work of Healthcare Technologies Knowledge Centre (BME-EMT) which operates at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Here I started to work on a telecare system (called TeleCalm Plus). During development my primary task was to design and implement an Android client application, which belongs to the TeleCalm Plus system.
In my thesis I demonstrate the structure and operation of the TeleCalm Plus system, and I also discuss and describe the responsibilities of the main system components focusing on those parts, which are needed in order to understand how the client application – my thesis task - works. In the next part of my thesis I present the design process of the client application, the structure of the application, the operation of the application’s main components and finally the connection between these components. In the last section I detail the implementation and testing process, summarise my work and show future development directions.
