Team cohesion visualisation

In today’s modern team sports the employment of foreign players is a common practice. Unlike in the previous decades, some athletes tend to change team or even countries more often. As a result, developing the right team cohesion is becoming more and more important. However, this is not an easy task, since people from different countries, with different ideology, mentality, religion and speaking on different languages have to be forged into a well funtioning team.

In my work I have designed and implemented a web application that provides help in this procedure. Using modern visualization techniques, my application displays the social network between the players, which helps us to determine which players’ roles are the most important in terms of team dynamics in each team, and who are those that would fit the most in particular teams. The system that was created shows how strong the relationship is among particular players which could provide a great help in the development of the right team cohesion.

After the first introductory chapter in the second chapter I describe some rules of football that are relevant for my thesis. In the third chapter I introduce the basics of visualization, while in the fourth one my social network displaying component will be introduced. Then, I present the design and implementation of the system built around the visualization component, then in the sixth chapter the completed application will be tested. Finally, in the seventh chapter, I summarize my results.
