The rapidly developing mobile technology makes it possible for manufacturers to overwhelm the market with sensor-rich mobile devices. Owing to this, an ever growing number of people possess smart phones with Internet connection and a number of sensors. As a result, sampling of the large amount of data generated by them and its synchronisation into cloud-based services and its later analysis have become possible.
My thesis introduces Mobile Crowd Sensing which is based on mass data collection. It also introduces its major uses and areas in which it has already been applied.
Two standards will be introduced based on the literature review, which can be applied in this field. One of these will be introduced in more detail. This standard was used in my thesis, which is an iOS based application. This application registers certain sensors that are located in smart phones and records the measured data on a server supported by the standard. My thesis discusses the possibilities provided by the sensors on iOS platform. It also describes the services provided by the server mentioned.
