Design and optimization of a wind farm's medium voltage cable network

The electricity demand of Hungary has reached 6300 MW in 2011. It is a serious problem for the energy industry to compete with the growing demands in capacity. Most of the main power plants in Hungary are old and outdated; they have already exceeded their planned lifespan. We should consider the idea of building new power plant, to secure energy supply to the country in the future.

Renewable energy source power plants, which are more environmentally friendly then the fossil-fuel power stations, are spreading all over the world. In our country the spreading of these types of plants is increasing, especially wind and biomass power plants.

This is the reason why I chose designing a wind farm’s medium voltage cable network as the topic of my thesis. I will present the design of the networks and in addition I will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each type. After the exact calculation of cable prices and electrical losses, I will compare the possible networks, then I will choose the best design.
