We live in the world of wireless connectivity and IoT every day. A whole set of
engineers are researching future communication solutions. In my dissertation, I am
dealing with a recent LoRaWAN radio frequency network. LoRaWAN networks have
been specifically developed for IoT devices, with long range capability and low power
At the beginning of my dissertation, I briefly review some basic required
knowledge for radio communication. Through an example I present transmission
blocking factors and signal losses during the communication. In most of the research
section I present the network architecture of LoRaWAN.
The design and implementation section details the construction of an energy efficient
measuring device, that uses the LoRaWAN network to send the information to
an Internet service. At the end of the dissertation, I make some measurement and
calculation to the efficiency of the finished device. I analyze the achieved results and give
an outlook for future development opportunities.
