Performance Evaluation of Sensor Networks

My task was to examine the performance of two sensor networks in a simulation framework where both of them are built by different modules. I achieved this with the use of OMNeT++ which grants several modules of sensor networks and with my implementation from the real nRF24L01+ radio devices which were chosen by my department in the university. This radio devices has built-in medium access control protocol. After the implementation I checked the operation with some measurement. I measured the number of loss frames and acknowledgments, the number of frame retransmissions and the data-link layer round-trip times.

The other part of my task was to implement the RPL routing protocol which was also chosen by the department. After that I made measurements within the simulation framework in networks which consist of devices with the preferred MAC and network layer. The parameters were measured are the construction time of the acyclic network graphs and the filling time of the routing tables. These results were compared with results from networks built by modules coming from OMNeT++. I gave proposals based on these results to improve.
