Nowadays, automotive industry is one of the world's most important economic sectors, which is growing and improving very fast. There are two bigger part of this improving, on one hand the reduction of harmful emission and power consumption, and on the oth-er hand the increasing of comfort and safety. Each topic listed is closely related to the electronic power steering, which has more and more tasks as time goes by, and the num-ber of jobs will grow with the appearance of more independent cars in the future.
While driving a car is an everyday activity, probably we don’t think about the serious damage, that a possible failure of the power steering can cause. As it is a fully safety-critical systems, design standards and systematic testing are fundamental requirements.
My thesis is about constructing a simulation system which makes the power steering system testing process not only possible, but funny at the same time in a virtual, abso-lutely secure environment. As the system I was worked with is an active project at Rob-ert Bosch GmbH, I won’t be able to write every details, but I will show how it is possi-ble to connect a real steering system to the computer, and how a computer game is able to help the testing process.
