Not a long ago swimming pool was luxury at regular households, but not anymore. People build swimming pool in the regular basis, so there is a need to take care of the hygiene of these pools water. This serves two purposes, on one hand it’s esthetically nice, and the other hand we can prevent the growth of bacteria and the formation of dangerous chemical compounds. In the swimming pool technology there are two methods to clean water, filtering and chemical treatment.

My dissertation is about both the chemical treatment methods and filtering options. It’s also about how can be the water tested with manual and automatic equipments whether is it clean enough. Then I present the electronic which controls a water pump to circulate the water and the device which measures the water quality. I also write the main steps how to develop the electronic and the control program.

The purpose of this device is to control the water pump at a previously given time, and at the same time to measure and display the properties of water. Then I present how to fit the measuring electronic and central controlling unit to microcontrollers. I review the SPI and 1-wire protocols, and the structure and function of the sensors which are important to get the water quality data. These are the PT1000 resistance-temperature sensor, PH glass electrode and chlorine sensor. In the end of the dissertation I show some additional systems and software for further development.
