Testing of balancing abilities of children with birth injuries

In our everyday lives, we continuously use our balancing abilitiy, and we do this as easy as breathing. However, balancing is the result of a complex physiological control system, which is based on the coordinated work of our muscles and sensory organs. After receiving and processing the external stimuli, we try to keep the stable position of our bodies.

The Huple® is the invention of Dr. Judit Schulteisz, which is used for improving the balancing ablities of children with birth injuries. This is a cavernous, solid, hemisphere-shaped tool, which stimulates the vestibular system during its usage. The children complete playfull tasks in order to improve their abilities. The level of improvement and the fine movements of the children can not or hard to be noticed with bare eye. In order to observe their movements I used a sensor called x-IMU , and I also used a MATLAB program to process the data of the sensor. Then I created parameters to characterize the balancing ability. Thanks to the parameters it is possible to get feedback from the actual balancing ability of the children.
