Content based social networking system on Android tablets

Because of the evolution of information technology, today the market of the mobile devices enjoys growing success among the users. The smart phones and tablet PCs offer wide and different levels of functionality, and possibility of mobile Internet access. These facts cause further increase in demand.

Various surveys show that social network applications gained very high degree of popularity among those people, who spend a lot of time on the web. These people like to feel the proximity of acquaintances, even if this is happening virtually. The above-mentioned devices can help in achieving this with location and time independent mode.

In my thesis I learnt about the Android mobile operating system by Google, which enjoys a leading position in the area of the mobile opertaing systems. My presentation of this platform will include the properties, which are significant in terms of interface design. On the other hand I studied novelty of the new version of the Android, which was designed for the tablet PCs.

I wanted to multiply my gained experiences, so I joined to the development of a community application in the “Automatizálási és Alkalmazott Informatikai Tanszék”, and I took part in the developing of the fat client application for Android tablet PCs. In this work I could be the part of functionality extension planning, development and implementation tasks. My duties included the optimization of network access, cache implementation, and development of community functions, like message boards, forums and news. In the second half of my thesis I will describe the planning and implementation processes, with incurred any difficulties or problems.
