Control system renovation of a brickyard

In 2017 one of the largest Hungarian building material manufacturers decided to resume the operations in one of its rural brick factories. The factory has been vacant for years, hence important renovations were required. The upgrade of the machines requires a lot of software support some of which were provided by GammaDigital Ltd.

As in all factories, security and reliability are of paramount importance of a refurbishment, so a Siemens TP1500 HMI has been installed on the control panel to serve as a back-up interface for the technician if the WinCC interface fails. The development of the HMI was my main task. The display provides full information about the tools of the most important manufacturing processes and in some cases, user intervention is also possible. For the application running on the HMI, it was necessary to accomplish certain tasks at PLC level.

The development environment was the Siemens TIA Portal V13. The PLC was not changed during refurbishment, the original S414 CPU remained. Its programming was done in Step7. After the programming phase, software support had to be provided for the tests during commissioning.
