Nowadays IT systems are becoming more and more popular in agricultural areas. The system I got introduced to a sensor network which can be deployed in wineries. This system supports real time monitoring of every important factor in grape production. As some of its components are built in hardly reachable places, installing them means a lot of work, so developing an application that can make these processes more effective would cause a great improvement.
Before beginning my task, I deepened my knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and the current system in operation. I’ve been consulting with the users to learn the factors which can make the installation and developement of this system more effective.
The embedded software of the application runs on an already existing device, which supports BLE technology and can communicate with a PC through USB serial interface. The other significant part of my task was to create a computer application, which provides a feasible user interface for the embedded application through serial communication with the BLE device. In this paper I write about the main parts of the developement, the difficulties I experienced during the tasks, the applied technologies, and about future developement possibilities.
Finally, I carried out tests in different situations verifying my application. These tests corresponded well with the real environment where the system is applied.
