Visualization of geospatial data to support algorithm development

My thesis topic is the developement of a user interface capable of visualising geoinformatics (GIS) data on a map and providing tools helping users to effectively analyze and edit this data. The application was created within the CV4S framework developed by the Department of Automation and Applied Informatics at Budapest University of Technology and Economy and is intended to provide a visualisation solution for the framework’s GIS module.

During the developement, an integrated tile-based map builded on the framework was created, and also many functions helping developers and future users of the module.

My paper begins with a short summary on geoinformatics, where I present the theoretical base and practical aspects of GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Also practical aspects, details and common solutions related to GIS visualisation and displaying (e.g. solutions used in Google Maps and OSM) are presented. After this I go through the milestones of the developement process considering the problems and tasks which came along and describing the theoretical background and implementation aspects of the solutions given. The paper ends with ideas for further developement of the system.
