Matlab based 3D Simulations of UV laser ablation

The lasers have a very versatile applicability in the manufacturing industry. In the field of electronics technology the lasers are commonly used for processing materials. As a result of the development happened in the last decades the accuracy of the micromachining developed exceedingly.

The lasers special properties explain the diverse usability of these tools; however the process is not fully understood. Several papers aim to give an explanation of the laser-material interaction in order to provide a predictable methodology for these applications.

Laser ablation is the process of removing material from a solid surface by irradiating it with a laser beam. This physical phenomenon is unfeasible to observe by human eye. Computer simulations are applied on the fields where measurements are hardly executable. Hence these approaches not just help the understanding of the physics behind it but also grant a calculable method for industrial use.

The aim of this project is to estimate the result of a short pulsed laser ablation process with an UV:NdYAG laser, on a solid body made from copper. The examination shall cover the evaluation of the effects of the critical parameters.
