The purpose of this thesis is to introduce technologies utilized in on-board passenger information systems, as well as introducing the on-board passenger information systems concretely used by our national railway company, MÁV-START Zrt. from both logical and physical sides, as well as introducing the utilized networking infrastructure, which makes communication possible. Comparing these on-board systems, is an essential part, and also presenting the potential development points, and the trends in technology.
The thesis concretely deals with general (mobile broadband, satellite navigation) and railway specific (TNC, WTB, MVB) technologies. In addition, discusses two on-board passenger information systems in detail, also comparing them, as well as introducing the responsible server infrastructure of MÁV-group.
The result of the thesis, is an overall conclusion regarding current technologies used by MÁV-START Zrt., and a set of statements helping in possible future upgradability of these kind of systems.
