In my thesis for the master’s degree I developed a control software for the Nd:YAG laser machining station of the Department of Electronics Technology. My primary motivation was the replacement of the current control software, because it is not compatible the newer types of motor control cards, which are responsible for the movement of the mechanical stage and camera. In addition I actualized requirements which the previous software did not or partially fulfill.
In my work I used a Coherent AVIA 355-4500 type laser and it’s control module, and a stage made-up two PI M-535 type linear actuators. The control software was realized in LabVIEW development environment.
In the first part of my thesis I generally introduce the laser types and their field of applications in the electronics industry, make a literature research about the attributions of the laser control softwares and review the overall structure, functioning features, application possibilities and block diagrams (~ source codes) of the LabVIEW environment.
In the second part, after explaining the motivations, current problems and solution needs, I present in detail my performed duties during my interim work. I describe the general structure of the control software, the program parts for the control of the laser, the mechanical stage and the galvanometer scanner, and their operation functions. I discuss the important elements of solutions for the encountered problems during the development. In the end of my thesis I outline the achievements, summarize the possible development guidelines, point out how to make the system faster, more efficient and more manageable during my further work.
