Real-time realistic ocean water synthesis and rendering

The aim of this thesis is to summarize the methods used by the film and gaming industry to generate ocean waves. The majority of the work concerns with open ocean models, yet based on Gerstner's model, it provides a short description of coastal processes.

Besides the formulation of the different mathematical equations of wave motion, we discuss the real-time rendering methods that support the actual implementation on modern graphics hardware.

In the end, several sample programs that have been inspired by these techniques are demonstrated and compared against each other.
