Design and integration of an I-V measurement unit for a complex solar cell test system

This thesis demonstrates a partially automatised solar cell testing system developed in a LabVIEW environment, and the development process of the solar cell measuring card.

The first part of the task was to become acquainted with the whole measuring system and the usage of LabVIEW programming language. After that I had to derive the theoretical backgrounds, and imply the results to the parameters of the different solar cells, used in the industry. The final stage was to choose the components, plan the circuit diagram and document the complete PCB design.

The purpose of the circuit was to being compatible with the different parameters of the various products and also to run automatically on a DAQ card controlled by the LabVIEW program.

The final system is user friendly; with some simple steps one can record matching amperage and voltage data from different solar cells. Using the recorded data the program plots the current-voltage and power-voltage characteristics, which represents the quality of the device. We also get further parameters and the documentation of the measurement results.
