Most of today's public transport vehicle is equipped with an on-board system, that assists the driver and makes more efficient and more accurate the network operation. The operator of the Hungarian train network MÁV also has such system, that has been developed by Prolan Zrt.. The company has used an unique embedded systems, but rapid evolution and many advantages of smartphones allowed for further improvements.
Android is one of the world's most popular mobile platform. In just six years, more than one billion devices has been activated, of which 121 million were sold last year. One reason for the spread of Android that is designed not only smartphones, but any suitable device, which has relative small display, limited resources and data input is not made by mouse and / or keyboard. It is confirmed by the fact system is breaking into more and more areas of industry. Today there are available navigation tools, TVs, projectors with Android operating system. Even cars can be already purchased which has android-based on-board system.
The thesis follows the design and development process of an android-based application, which is able to partially replaced the embedded system developed by Prolan Zrt.. The target of the software is move almost all the functionality of the current display to a tablet. The thesis presents the key issues and most important features of the application. The document also provides a brief insight into the main benefits of the software-driven development method.
