Distributed robot hardware system development

Eurobot is an international robot construction contest where teams from different countries can test their professional knowledge. Each team has to start at least one robot which can work independently in the competition. The Hungarian team delegated by the Department of Automation and Applied Informatics and the Department of Mechatronics, Optics and Mechanical Engineering Informatics has participated in the contest for several years.

A robot hardware structure and its software system have been developed over the years. In the thesis this system is reviewed. The primary purpose of this thesis to redesign the processing unit which can complete low-level tasks and is located in the hardware system of the robot thus creating a new hardware structure. During designing mechanical aspects should also be taken into account, the plan is to create a small-size distributed hardware structure which includes mobile electronic parts.

This thesis introduces how to produce the hardware of the controller unit and the software system required for testing the device. The construction of the hardware system for the new control unit is also presented.
