Wired data collection network design

Ambient Assisted Living systems provide possibility for elderly people or people with illness in order to maintain life quality and prolong self-maintainance duration without the need of medical assistance. The system is to be based on an automatic monitoring proceeded by data acquisiton system installed in the home of the patient. The measured data will be forwarded to a data center where the appropriate consequences on the recent medical status will be calculated with the related algorithms.

The following thesis intends to introduce the planning and the special usage of a wired sensor network. Within the frames of the system to be drafted as follows, all possible wired connections are to be analysed, both logical and physical ways. The automotive CAN protocol is to be used and combined with some of the IEEE1451 standard’s advantages. Finally a system is built with good error tolerance due to the used protocol and which is relatively cheap to implement. The planned system's basic functions were demonstrated on a build test hardware.
