YouTube is one of the largest video-sharing websites. It was created more than 10 years ago and year after year, it is used by more and more people, making an amazing grow in network traffic. Moreover other content providers have come up with their OTT solutions lately.
Nowadays the video resolutions are getting higher, and users’ needs are changing, so network operators have to deal with the huge grow in network traffic, which is generated by the video sites. Maybe the most shared parts of the networks are the mobile networks, where a great number of people can be connected to the same mobile network cell. In this case, any kind of innovation can make a great progress.
In my thesis, I make a research on one of the experimental projects of Google. I examined the QUIC protocol and the Quality of Experience using this protocol on an Android phone. In my analysis, I changed the parameters of the network to measure how the new protocol copes with hard situations.
I also automated the measurements from the beginning to the end. It was useful, because I could speed up the measuring process, and I was able to pay more attention to set the appropriate parameters. In the end I summarize the results of my measurements and I show a future target, where my solution can be reused.
