This thesis work is about creating a tactical and position tracker system, which supports sailing racers.
It starts with the introduction of the necessary background knowledge, which is followed by the description of the design and development of the system.
This system can be divided into two main unites: the software that runs on the mobile phone and the server software. The latter contains a Windows service and a website based on Google Maps.
To be able to understand the operation of the system I demonstrate the main definitions and rules related to sailing and sail racing, therefore those readers who are not familiar with this sport can understand the software’s functions. Moreover, there is a review about the already accessible relevant products. Then I shortly explain the working environment and the applied technologies during the creation of the project: e.g. software development on Windows Mobile phones, PHP and Java Script.
After summarizing the background information I present in details of the specification of each component, such as the mobile phone based software, the program that runs on the server and the website that displays the position of the sailboat. Furthermore, I describe the interesting problems arisen during the implementation. At the end of the thesis work I present each part of the whole system with the help of some screenshots and finally I summarize the testing process and its main results.
