Development of a game based on hydrology simulation

Nowadays more and more geoinformation based systems are breaking their way into our everyday life. A part of these helping people’s lives in a daily basis, such as probably Our World’s biggest navigation system called Google Maps while another part is making predictive simulations using different kind of physical models.

In the latter case, there is a database which provides instantaneous or previous informations. Based upon these results you can create a simulated forecast using an algorithm with a physical model.

Programs forecasting weather or global warming (therefore the rising of water levels) are working all alike. „Global warming” as it’s name says is a globally sized problem but in a local perspective flooding can be an issue as well. In these scenarios a river for example which just breached the dam can endanger an entire village or settlement.

The aim of this thesis is to make a game about flooding with hydrographical simulations that not only can entertain but can be a part of a real geoinformatical or flooding forecast system, all made possible by the physics model and algorithm under the hood.
